Laser / Operator

Location: Pacoima, CA (Relocation)

Work Schedule: M – F 6:00 am – 2:30pm (Potential OT)

Job Description

SDI Systems is searching for an experienced Laser Operator who will be responsible to set up, operate, or tend to cut more than one type of part. This position will be part of our Shop team and will report to the Shop Foreman.

Role and Responsibilities

These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Set up and nest raw material to optimize utilization
  • Enters accurate data in job tracking and quality software programs.
  • Accurately documents all work and records
  • Perform inventory tasks as assigned by the Shop Foreman
  • Remove laser cut components from skeletons
  • Perform general maintenance in and around the laser table
  • Inspect workpieces for defects, and measure workpieces to determine accuracy of a piece, using rules, templates, or other measuring instruments
  • Observe machine operation and detect workpiece associated with software/design inconsistencies.
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions, and to plan
  • Operational Sequences
  • Make minor mechanical adjustments to machines, and notify Shop Foreman and Procurement department when major service is required
  • Perform minor machine maintenance, such as adding coolant to machine reservoirs and changing bed metal shims accessories
  • Instruct other workers as needed when required to run machine
  • Extract or lift jammed pieces from machines, using protective gloves, wire hooks, or lift bars
  • Move controls templates in machines to set cutting speeds and adjust focus for laser depth cutting penetration
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Years of relevant experience: 6 months – 1 year of experience related to welding.
  • High School diploma or GED, or 6 months and above or equivalent of education and experience
  • Knowledge of AutoCad and Metacam software
  • Motor coordination, manual, & finger dexterity
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions (written, oral, diagram, & etc)
  • Organizational skills
  • To operate a forklift must be certified and licensed
