Continental, a technology company for vehicles, has announced the start of their AutoStore operations– an intelligent warehouse designed to optimize operations– at their Periférico Plant in Guadalajara, Mexico.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – GUADALAJARA, JALISCO, July, 2024 – Element Logic, a leading provider of material handling systems and innovative automation solutions, is pleased to announce the implementation of the new AutoStore Smart Warehouse at Continental, located at their Periférico plant in Guadalajara, Mexico. This comprehensive material storage and picking system features various state-of-the-art robots, grids, ports, and controllers that make it unique in the Americas.
AutoStore achieves ultra-dense storage that increases storage capacity by up to four times compared to manual warehouses. The rapidly growing demand was met with highly flexible and easily scalable automated storage, which significantly reduced the warehouse footprint within the warehouse.
This intelligent system operates with eight robots on guides and grids, which are managed autonomously by highly specialized software, providing fast and easy material flow needed for the production floor, which operates 24/7. With a global uptime of 99.7% and a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of over 3,000 hours. The independently controlled modules and troubleshooting software ensure system interruptions are rare and solvable without halting operations.
“This system allows us as a plant to maximize floor space utilization, achieve various savings, and increase efficiency in material handling; all of which greatly helps us in continuing to deliver the highest quality products to our customers while meeting delivery deadlines,” Sergio Márquez Oriza, Plant Director at Continental Periférico, said.
“Element Logic has a proven track record of successfully meeting and exceeding Continental’s expectations in Europe,” Krish Nathan, CEO – Americas at Element Logic, said. “We are very excited; there was a lot of confidence in us, and Element Logic’s global infrastructure was key.”
The comprehensive warehouse system is 31X28 meters, entailing a total investment of €3 million, and is installed at the Periférico plant in Guadalajara. Established in 2002, the plant employs around 2,500 employees and is dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and testing analog and digital instrument clusters, as well as Head-Up Displays for both light and commercial vehicles, primarily serving the North American market.
“Despite the challenging industry landscape, we must continue to make room for innovation and optimization in all our operations in Mexico,” Marco Galluzzi, Focus Country Head for Mexico, remarked. “The market expects our company to be in constant improvement, and this AutoStore is an example of how Continental continues to prepare itself and acquire innovative, cutting-edge tools to shape the future of mobility from Mexico.”
