Jim Johnson began his logistics career in 1988 as a millwright. Today, he is a senior supply chain executive for SDI Industries (Pacoima, California). In an industry where success is measured by trust and financially justifiable solutions, Jim stands as an icon of accomplishment. Jim’s intimate “design-build” knowledge of integrated solutions has put him in the lead position on major projects for retailers in a variety of industries, including Nike, Genesco and Cracker Barrel. However, he is best known for his candor in client relationships, as well as his ability to successfully navigate both sides of the client-vendor equation – truthfully representing his employer, while passionately protecting client needs.
“If my client can’t sleep at night, I can’t sleep at night” – Jim Johnson
Jim rose quickly through the ranks at Designed Conveyor Systems (Nashville, Tenn.). His leadership skills and drive to completion fueled a career path from the shop floor to the front office. However, it was in working closely with clients that Jim’s true skills for communication, consensus-building and client care were revealed. In 1999, Jim was recruited by Fortna, Inc. (Nashville, Tenn.) as an account manager. He was originally reluctant to pursue a career in sales. However, his natural ease with clients and colleagues, as well as his hands-on knowledge of materials handling, made for a perfect fit. Meanwhile, his ability to attract new clients and inspire repeat business advanced Jim as the first account manager to achieve the rank of “Senior Manager” in the company’s history. Jim continued to flourish in the following decade as a top-level account executive for industry-leading firms FloStor Engineering (Nashville, Tenn.) and Kuecker Logistics Group (Kansas City, Mo.). Throughout this period, Jim demonstrated a clear talent for understanding client’s needs and providing value-added solutions. He has been a key team member on multi-million dollar projects with major retailers, including Genco, Avon, BASF and Parts Unlimited. His tenure at Fortna is highlighted by record setting profitability and delivering substantial new accounts, such as O’Reilly Auto Parts. Based on his track record of technical and relationship savvy, Jim stands poised to continue growth as a supply chain solutions executive of the highest order, matching insightful solutions to client’s business objectives.
